Slovakia: Supreme Court upholds construction cartel fines

Slovakia’s Supreme Court has reportedly upheld fines issued to six construction firms in the nation for forming a cartel to rig a public auction, say reports.

    The companies were fined about $60 million for allegedly colluding to rig a tender to win a highway construction contact. But some of the firms fined claim such sanctions will financially destroy their business, and appealed the decision by the nation’s Antitrust Office.

    Reports say the Supreme Court sided with antitrust authorities, however has yet to issue its official decision to the companies. The firms were fined after authorities found them guilty in 2006 of rigging a 2004 construction contact auction.
