South Korea’s competition authority, the Fair Trade Commission, is reportedly planning to call for improved regulation by Chinese authorities, according to government sources.
Reports say the FTC will request the improvements in its second round of free trade agreement talks next week; the sources say the FTC is looking to lessen what it called discrimination against South Korean companies operating in China.
The first round of meetings resulted in an agreement between the two countries to cooperate and enhance transparency in antitrust laws.
In addition to lessening discrimination against South Korean firms, the sources say the FTC will also pursue an agreement to allow firms under Chinese investigation to present evidence in their own defense.
