Taiwan-based Acer Inc. announced Monday that is has launched legal action against various makers of optical disc drives, the latest company to do so since Hewlett-Packard announced similar charges last week.
Acer said it is suing companies including South Korea-based Samsung and Japan-based Toshiba over allegations of price-fixing. The complaint was filed October 25 in California.
According to an Acer spokesperson, the company is looking to work with US regulators in an investigation of the matter; the US International Trade Commission announced last week it would probe the accusations.
Acer is seeking unspecified damages.
The defendants in the cases make up about 90 percent of the optical disc drive market, say reports. Optical disc drives are used for CD and DVD electronic devices.
