US: FTC’s Ramirez unveils new way to facilitate worldwide regulatory consistency
Federal Trade Commission chairwoman Edith Ramirez unveiled Wednesday a new plan for the regulator to share information received through antitrust investigations with competition regulators overseas, an effort aimed at increasing consistency among regulators in various countries on cross-boarder deals.
The guidance, announced Wednesday at the Georgetown University law School’s Global Antitrust Enforcement Symposium, was made jointly with the US Department of Justice.
In her speech, Ramirez highlighted the growing challenges faced by regulators around the world as more competition authorities are established and competition policy matures.
Following the speech, the FTC and DOJ revealed the waiver policy to be presented to parties that have filed for merger clearance that would allow the regulators to share information obtained through the merger review with their counterparts in other jurisdictions.
