Colombia: Carlos Slim unit slapped with record fine

Colombia’s antitrust watchdog, the Superintendency of Industry and Commerce, slapped a record-setting $45.2 million fine on Claro, the Colombian unit of Carlos Slim-owned America Movil.

    The fine represents a record penalty ordered by local regulators.

    Reports say the company was fined for abuse of dominance. A probe into the company by the SIC found Claro to have blocked certain mobile phone frequencies.

    Reports say Claro will appeal the fine.
