China: Watchdog last to clear Norwegian aluminum JV

Chinese regulators have become the last competition watchdogs to clear a joint venture between Norway-based conglomerates Norsk Hydro and Orkla, bringing an end to legal assessments of the deal required for closure. Reports say aluminum and renewable energy giant Norsk Hydro and aluminum solutions firm Orkla will join forces and form aluminum solutions company Sapa. The venture has already been cleared by competition regulators, including the European Commission and the US Department of Justice. China’s MOFCOM was the final regulator needed for the deal to proceed.
