A proposal by the Bahamas Telecommunications Company looking to charge consumers for switching telco providers has been shot down by the Utilities Regulation and Competition Authority, say reports. The regulator recently announced its first ruling regarding phone number portability and found that BTC’s proposal would harm consumers and reduce competition. Further, in response to BTC’s concerns over the costs included with number portability, the URCA ruled that all competing telecommunications operators will equally divide those costs.
