EU: To further consolidated telco market agenda, EU clears Dutch termination rates
In part of its widespread efforts to promote a unified telecommunications market throughout the EU, the European Commission has cleared a proposal from the Dutch telecoms regulator, the ACM, that lowers termination rates to levels comparable to the rest of the EU member states. In a press release by the Commission, the regulator announced clearance of the offer that helps “create the conditions for a telecoms single market.” Further, consumers will benefit from the fee reduction, as such termination rates, which are charged to competing telecom operators to deliver calls between each other, ultimately land on the customer. The lowered rates amount to less than half of what they were before. According to the commission, the new rates will go into effect on the first of September this year.
