US: Major class action against BCBS kicks-off

A class action against insurance giant Blue Cross Blue Shield Association saw new developments this month as plaintiffs amended their complaints earlier this month in federal court. The filing issued an amended complaint for both subscribers and healthcare providers, say reports; US District Judge R. David Proctor ordered that proceedings continue in “the most efficient manner” should two separate complaints be filed. The plaintiffs filed their case against Blue Cross claiming “anticompetitive behavior” from the company regarding premium costs. The healthcare providers claim the company forces unfair terms upon them. Plaintiffs are seeking undisclosed damages. The court consolidated more than 40 lawsuits against the insurance company since last January.
