Israel: Economy Minister wants to break seaport monopoly

Israel’s Economy Minister Naftali Bennett has introduced an idea to the nation’s Antitrust Authority, as well as its director David Gilo, to consider breaking the current monopolization of seaport docks and privatizing the industry. The current monopolization of the industry places “a heavy toll” on Israel and its people, said Bennett, due to a lack of competition. His proposal comes months before a tender is set to begin for the construction of a new port.
