South Africa: Excessive pricing allegations place chemical co in front of Tribunal
Following a 2007 investigation by South Africa’s Competition Commission, chemical giant Sasol will face the Competition Tribunal on allegations the company fixed prices of the chemical polypropylene. The Commission found the company guilty of the collusion as well as of excessive pricing for both polypropylene and propylene. The Commission has recommended that the Tribunal impose a fine of 10 percent of Sasol’s 2009 turnover, according to reports. The case was first referred to the Tribunal in 2010.
