US: Obama wants antitrust expert promoted to regulatory leader

President Barack Obama announced Thursday his nomination of antitrust expert Howard Shelanski to become Obama’s right-hand-man in regulatory “czar,” a high-profile position known as the administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs. The position is in charge of reviewing government-proposed regulations. Shelanski currently heads economists in charge of antitrust review at the Federal Trade Commission. If elected, he would replace Cass Sunstein, who recently left the White House to teach at Harvard Law School. Those interviewed by media describe Shelanski as “a home run: for the position, more than adequate to fulfill the position’s duties.
