Dish Network has announced its initiative for a $25.5 billion bid for wireless carrier Sprint Nextel in a competitive battle to knock out Softbank of Japan’s current $20 billion proposal. Softbank, which is currently awaiting approval from US authorities, is looking to acquire a 70 percent stake in Sprint; the deal would be Japan’s largest acquisition transaction in history. But Dish is looking to out-bid Softbank as it argues that its bid for Sprint is superior; a statement from Dish’s chairman Charles Ergen to The Wall Street Journal described Dish’s bid as “more compelling” than Softbank’s.
