France: Largest carmaker teams with GM for new compact cars

France’s largest carmaker PSA Peugeot Citroen will reportedly take the lead with General Motors Co. in a new alliance with General Motors Co. to develop joint models of compact cars, aiming to put those new cars on the market by 2016. Peugeot, which is Europe’s second-largest automaker, and GM announced antitrust clearance for their joint venture; the French company will reportedly work on three vehicle platforms that both manufacturers will use. The two first announced their alliance in February of last year. According to the companies, antitrust authorities have approved of their component-supply agreement, which they call a “cornerstone” in the agreement.
