Canada: Indie film merger official, results in largest distributor for Canada, UK

A $230 million deal for Entertainment One to acquire Canadian independent film producer Alliance Films has been officiated, eOne has announced. The deal was cleared by the Canadian Competition Authority and has resulted in Canada and the UK’s largest independent film distributor. Co-founder of Alliance Victor Lowey released a statement following eOne’s press release, saying, “I have decided not to be part of the new enterprise,” and announced he would step down as Chairman and CEO of his company. Entertainment One is the top entertainment business in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Australia and New Zealand, according to its homepage.
