Ireland: 2012 mixed year for M&A activity, 1Q 2013 looking positive

Ireland’s Competition Authority has announced its highest fourth-quarter level of mergers and acquisitions activity since 2007, despite an earlier report that announced a slight decrease in activity (down to 33 cases from 40) before an end-of-the-quarter bump. A review of Irish merger control by the Competition Authority – performed by McCann FitzGerald’s Competition, Regulated Markets & EU Law Group – reported an overall mixed year for Ireland, though noted that the last-minute bump in activity for the Competition Authority may suggest “early signs that the first quarter of 2013 is also looking positive.”
