US: Accused Detroit contractor wants bid-rigging retrial delayed

Contractor Bobby Ferguson, currently on-trial for charges of bid-rigging Detroit city contracts, has asked a deferral judge to delay his retrial, citing the hospitalizations of two of his lawyers as well as testimony “taking longer than expected.” The retrial is set for April 2. Ferguson has defending himself along with former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, both on trial for bid-rigging corruption charges. Ferguson is facing a retrial after a deadlocked jury failed to convict him. According to the U.S. Attorney’s office, Ferguson and two other individuals rigged bids for Ferguson’s contracting company to acquire a $12 million low-income housing project in the city; his charges also include money laundering, unlawful gun possession and illegal dumping.
