E.U.: Parliament asks Commission to safeguard steel competition

The European Parliament has asked the European Commission to aid the steel industry as job numbers in the sector fell by more than half a million between 1970 and 2012. Parliament has specifically asked the Commission to ensure that steel plants must be relocated and restructured in compliance with competition law, and to monitor any signs of abuse of dominance. The Commission has previously promised to deliver an agenda for the sector by June 2013.
