France: Court overturns Canal Plus plea

The French Constitutional Council Friday rejected a proposal by pay-television giant Canal Plus to overturn antitrust sanctions France’s competition authority placed on it in July. The series of sanctions were aimed at loosening Canal Plus’ control over the French television market, especially in the nascent online-video market, as it reneged on its promises made during its 2006 takeover of satellite-TV competitor TPS.
