U.S.: BP and Plains E&P get antitrust clearance for Gulf of Mexico deal

Plains, an Exploration & Production of oil company, purchased oil and natural gas assets in the Gulf of Mexico from British Petroleum (BP) for $5.55 billion USD. The purchase of these assets does not pose any competition concern, according to the US watchdog. The assets are part of a $6.1 billion US deal Plains fashioned with BP and fellow major Shell at the start of September. The deal was announced September 10.
