The Regional Administrative Tribunal of Lazio rejected Apple’s appeal of a € 900,000 ($1.2 million) fine. Italy’s Autorità Garante della Concorrenza e del Mercato (AGCM) had fined Apple in December 2011 for misleading consumers with regard to its assistance services and warranties. The competition authority had found that Apple was violating EU law requiring free two-year warranties for electronic products: Apple instead encouraged consumers to purchase AppleCare and provided unclear information on its warranties.
