Institute of Advertising Practitioners in Ireland criticizes RTÉ’s new plan

The Institute of Advertising Practitioners in Ireland (IAPI) has released a statement criticizing the RTÉ’s new television advertising plan. The new plan is to replace the share deal scheme, under which advertiser discounts correspond to how much they advertise with RTÉ. The broadcaster introduced the plan to the Competition Authority as an undertaking.

    The IAPI singled out the early agreement discount as “restrictive and requir[ing] advertisers to underiwte a budget prior to the start of the trading year.” Instead, the IAPI suggested, there should be only one volume-related pricing structure that distributes discounts evenly throughout the year.
