Kerala jewelry association cleared of Manappuram’s antitrust accusations

The Competition Commission of India has dismissed an antitrust case against Kerala Gold and Silver Dealers Association (KGSDA). Manappuram Jewellers had filed a complaint with the CCI, accusing KGSDA of abusing its dominant position in the market for gold and silver jewelry in Thrissur. According to Manappuram, KGSDA members engaged in anticompetitive business practices, including price-fixing and posting notices in their shops that Manappuram’s gold was of inferior quality.

    The CCI’s investigation results cleared KGSDA of abuse of dominance, and furthermore, found that KGSDA members’ combined market share amounted to less than that of Manappuram’s.
