Ministry of Commerce places conditions on Western Digital’s acquisition of Hitachi GST

China’s Ministry of Commerce has conditionally approved Western Digital’s proposed acquisition of Hitachi Global Storage Technologies. The conditions require Hitachi GST to operate independently for at least two years after the deal, including aspects of production, R&D, and sales. In addition, Hitachi GST is to continue using its existing production lines and product and sales teams, and not exchange sensitive information with Western Digital on prices, supplies or customers.
