Appeal panel dismisses British Airways and Virgin Atlantic’s $235 million fine

In November 2011, British Airways and Virgin Atlantic were fined $235 million by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority for airfare price hikes constituting unfair trade practices. However, an appeal panel has now overturned the finding and the penalties. The panel determined that no Nigerian law was violated, and that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority Act of 2006 could not be applied to conduct that occurred in 2004.
