The claims were made in a post on social media, where Burry — widely known for predicting the housing market collapse highlighted in The Big Short — suggested that Nvidia’s conduct in the fast-growing AI chip market could become the focus of antitrust attention. According to a statement posted by Burry on X, Nvidia acted in a “mafia-like” manner in order to block its rival from winning the deal.

Burry alleged that Nvidia intervened in an AI data-center project tied to Oracle Corp. and OpenAI. According to a statement from Burry’s post, Oracle had taken on significant borrowing to acquire land and place orders for hardware designed to use Nvidia’s upcoming Blackwell chips.

However, the arrangement reportedly ran into complications when OpenAI reconsidered the project. According to a statement shared by Burry, OpenAI argued that the planned chips could become outdated before the facility was completed.

“The chips will be dated before the building is even ready,” Burry wrote.

The investor further claimed that Nvidia took steps to prevent AMD from securing the hardware contract linked to the data-center project. According to a statement from Burry’s post, Nvidia allegedly paid roughly $150 million to block AMD from winning the deal.

“This is how NVDA throws its weight around to block AMD use by its customers,” Burry wrote. “It is mafia-like and should be an antitrust case.”

Burry also asserted that federal regulators may already be examining Nvidia’s market behavior. According to a statement from Burry, the U.S. Justice Department has been investigating the company for nearly two years, though he indicated skepticism that any enforcement action would occur under the current administration.

Neither Nvidia nor the Justice Department has publicly confirmed the existence of such an investigation.

The accusations come as Nvidia has emerged as the dominant supplier of graphics processing units used to power modern artificial intelligence systems. The company’s chips are widely used across the industry by major technology firms and AI developers, including Meta Platforms and OpenAI, and have become central to the global race to build advanced AI infrastructure.

Despite increasing competition from chipmakers such as AMD and Intel, Nvidia continues to control the largest share of the AI accelerator market, which has expanded rapidly as companies invest billions in data centers designed to support machine learning systems.

Burry suggested the reported dispute could signal broader tensions forming within the AI infrastructure boom. According to a statement in his post, he described the situation as “an absolutely huge deal” and said “the signs are showing up in several places.”
