Speaking to reporters in São Paulo, Claro Brazil CEO Rodrigo Marques emphasized that the company remains selective despite being open to expansion. “We analyze all the options that come our way,” he said. “But we don’t buy just anything for the sake of buying. It has to be related to our customers’ needs.” His remarks, per Reuters, highlight a cautious but opportunistic approach as the company evaluates future deals.

Last month, Claro announced it would purchase a 73% stake in Desktop in a deal valued at approximately 4 billion reais ($808.93 million), according to Reuters. The base equity price stands near 2.4 billion reais after accounting for the Brazilian firm’s net debt. The acquisition represents a significant step in Claro’s strategy to strengthen its footprint in Brazil’s broadband market.

Marques noted that the transaction still requires approval from Brazil’s antitrust authority, CADE, as well as telecom regulator Anatel. He added that approvals are expected by the end of the year, according to Reuters.

The CEO explained that Desktop’s strong presence in São Paulo state—Brazil’s most populous and economically vital region—was a key factor behind the acquisition. At the same time, per Reuters, Claro remains open to pursuing opportunities nationwide, reflecting its broad operational reach across the country.

America Movil, which controls Claro, is owned by the family of Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim, one of the most prominent figures in the global telecommunications industry.
