The shareholders of Telecom Argentina have approved the telecommunications company’s merger with the cable television and Internet services operator Cablevisión. The merger will allow the resulting company to offer both fixed and mobile telephony, pay television and broadband Internet services.
“The merger with Cablevisión was approved, in which Telecom Argentina as an absorbing company incorporates Cablevisión,” Telecom said. The telephone company said that the operation is still conditional on obtaining regulatory approvals and on compliance with other conditions established in the previous merger agreement.
Once approved, the merger will now move before the National Communications Regulator (Enacom) and the National Commission for Defense of Competition (CNDC). Although it is assumed that there will be a green flag from both organisms, it is also expected that there will be some conditions, including the return of broadcasting spectrum to comply with the current cap. The CNDC will also review the merger for possible issues with market concentration.
