Australia: ACCC delays ruling on Expedia takeover citing concerns

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission said Thursday it has deferred its ruling on takeover plans by travel giant Expedia until October.

In a statement, the competition regulator said it will not rule until October 2 on Expedia’s proposed takeover of Wotif.com. That extra time will be used to determine how the removal of Wotif.com from the Australian travel booking industry will affect competition and prices, the ACCC said.

US-based Expedia first agreed to acquire Wotif for $660 million last July.
