Australia: Grain market open to competition in West for first time in 5 years

The Australian Competition Tribunal has announced its backing of a previous ruling by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission in a decision that will open up Western Australia to competition within the grain supply chain for the first time in half a decade. The Pastoralists and Graziers Association has expressed a welcoming response to the news that the growers of grain who store their product with CBH Group will no longer be forced to use CBH Group’s transport system. The change will come into effect in May. A spokesperson for the PGA noted that the move will open competition and allow farmers to choose who delivers the product and to whom the gain is sold.
