Brazil: AmBev to pay large antitrust fine

 |  July 16, 2015

AmBev has agreed a cut-price settlement to a fine first handed down by Brazil’s antitrust authority six years ago.

The US $73.1 million settlement is almost half the BZR352m levy imposed on Anheuser-Busch In-Bev’s Brazilian subsidiary in 2009 and includes a 20% “discount”, AmBev said in a statement this week. The fine follows a government investigation into allegations that AmBev engaged in illegal selling practices.

The settlement also closes any lawsuits, tax foreclosures, resources and procedural issues involving the government’s final decision.
