Canada: New testimony accuses former executive committee member of bid-rigging

 |  October 30, 2012

Former Montreal executive committee member Frank Zampino has been accused of bid-rigging by a bakery chain owner in new testimony heard by the Charbonneau Commission. Specifically, Zampino is accused of conspiring with construction boss Paolo Catania during a $300 million construction project in 2005, earning $300,000 to participate in a price-fixing scheme to lower the cost of a plot of land. Zampino left office in 2008. Both Zampino and Catania’s business are currently facing similar charges. The testimony comes just one day after Quebec’s Premier Marois vowed to make fighting bid-rigging a top priority.
