Boswell reflected on his years at the Bureau, noting his time as Commissioner beginning in 2018 and his work with colleagues since first joining the organization in 2011. “It has been a tremendous privilege to have worked with the incredible group of people at the Competition Bureau since I first joined the organization in 2011,” he said. He highlighted ongoing efforts to uphold competitive markets on behalf of Canadians.

Per a statement, Boswell emphasized the Bureau’s priorities over recent years, including proactive enforcement, advocacy for competition-supporting policies, and adapting to digital economic challenges. He expressed pride in what the agency has accomplished in advancing these goals during his leadership.

The Bureau also confirmed that Jeanne Pratt, currently Senior Deputy Commissioner of the Mergers and Monopolistic Practices Branch, will take over as acting Commissioner starting December 18, 2025. Boswell described Pratt as one of the country’s most experienced competition professionals and pointed to her leadership abilities as vital for the organization moving forward. “I know that, under Jeanne’s leadership as acting Commissioner, the Bureau will continue to work tirelessly to deliver the vital benefits of competitive markets to Canadians: greater affordability, better and more innovative products and services, as well as increased productivity and economic growth,” he stated.

According to the information released, the Commissioner of Competition is appointed by the Governor in Council, and in situations of vacancy, a Deputy Commissioner may take over the responsibilities under the authority established by Order in Council 2025-0671.
