E.U.: Commission objects to proposed telecoms changes in Czech, Polish telecom markets

The European Commission has rejected proposed changes to the telecom sector put forth by Czech and Polish telecoms regulators, saying the new plans undermine competition. Specifically, the Commission is concerned about the Czech telecoms regulator’s plans to increase termination rates to twice the rate of other countries, and the Polish telecoms regulator’s plans to deregulate part of the wholesale broadband access market based on an outdated market assessment. Both of these proposals are not in compliance with E.U. law. The Commission says it will look into the matter in the coming months.
