E.U.: Four publishers settle with Commission over eBooks case, Penguin still in talks

A settlement has been reached by Apple Inc. and four publishers with the European Commission over an issue of eBook price-fixing. HarperCollins, Hachette Livre, Macmillan and Simon & Schuster have all agreed to new legal conditions that will ease restrictions on setting prices on online eBook sellers. While some of the contracts have already been announced, such as Hachette, Penguin publisher is still under investigation. The Commission has said it is still in talks with the publisher to potentially reach a settlement as well. In a statement, the Commission said that the publishers may have “contrived to limit retail price competition for eBooks” in Europe.
