Germany: Cartel regulator to look at DT, Ewe fibre joint venture

The German cartel regulator has opened an investigation into Deutsche Telekom’s proposed fiber optic joint venture with regional operator Ewe Tel. As a result, the cooperation will need to await competition clearance before it starts work.

    The operators first announced plans to work together on rolling out fibre in late 2017. In March this year, Deutsche Telekom said the venture would be called Glasfaser NordWest. It plans to offer fiber to the home connections to up to 1.5 million households and business sites through an investment of up to €2 billion over the coming ten years.
