Germany: Deutsche Telekom secures assets in eastern EU

The European Commission has approved Deutsche Telekom’s $754 million buyout of GTS Central Europe, an acquisition report say gives the German telco control in eastern Europe over a fiber optic network.

The Commission cleared the buyout of GTS after probing the effects of the acquisition in several jurisdictions, ultimately finding no cause for competition concern in the Czech Republic, Romania, Hungary and Poland.

The markets probed by authorities are GTS’s main focus for voice and data services, say reports.
