Greece: Forthnet fined for pay-TV competition violations

 |  June 29, 2015

Cyprus’s competition regulator has fined Cyta and Forthnet respectively EUR 2.9 million and EUR 2.25 million for price-fixing and competition violations.

This follows an investigation into their 2011 agreement on exclusive distribution of the Nova cinema and sports TV channels from Forthnet on the Cytavision TV platform in Cyprus.

The regulator found that the two companies indirectly fixed prices and shared sensitive information on their future commercial policy, resulting in restricted competition in the market. The two were also found to have reached a ‘gentlemen’s agreement’ not to compete against each other in acquiring pay-TV content.
