In a statement the agency said it will continue evaluating the commitment proposals submitted by the parties until February 28, a year after it launched a probe into the joint venture on the grounds that it could result in the “consistent prevention, restriction or distortion of competition” in the country’s wholesale, retail broadband and ultra-broadband markets.

Telecom Italia and Fastweb first announced the initiative in July 2016, pledging to invest US$1.2 billion to accelerate the rollout of FTTH technology in 29 cities across Italy.

TIM replied to the launch of the investigation by declaring that it had behaved correctly and that the project would serve to increase competition and bring about benefits for consumers while Fastweb announced that it was convinced of the correctness of its actions.
