According to Bloomberg Law, which first reported the moves, the two partners are leaving Axinn to join Kirkland’s antitrust practice. Bloomberg Law reported that the hires represent another example of intense competition among large law firms for experienced antitrust practitioners, particularly as regulatory scrutiny of corporate transactions continues to shape legal demand.

The additions further bolster Kirkland’s global antitrust platform, which advises clients on merger clearance, government investigations, litigation, and competition counseling. The firm has continued to invest in lateral hiring across several practice areas while maintaining one of the largest transactional practices in the legal industry.

The departures also mark a notable change for Axinn, a boutique firm nationally recognized for its focus on antitrust, intellectual property, and complex litigation. The firm has built a reputation advising companies on high-stakes merger reviews, cartel investigations, monopolization matters, and competition litigation before the U.S. Department of Justice, the Federal Trade Commission, and international competition authorities.

The lateral move comes as antitrust practices remain among the busiest areas of the legal market. Although merger activity has fluctuated with economic conditions, companies continue to seek counsel on transactions that face extensive review by U.S. and foreign competition regulators. Government agencies have devoted significant attention in recent years to consolidation in sectors including technology, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, defense, consumer products, and private equity-backed industries, increasing demand for lawyers with merger control and enforcement experience.

Law firms have responded by expanding their competition practices through lateral recruiting, reflecting the strategic importance of antitrust capabilities for advising on acquisitions, government investigations, and complex litigation. Firms with strong transactional platforms have increasingly sought experienced competition lawyers who can support clients through regulatory reviews that have become longer and more resource-intensive.

According to Bloomberg Law, the move represents another example of Kirkland’s continued investment in expanding key practice areas through lateral hiring. The publication reported that the additions strengthen the firm’s ability to advise clients facing heightened antitrust enforcement and regulatory oversight.
