Private parking managers association Estacionamientos de Sinaloa will seek to promote changes to Article 105 of the Mexican Constitution, providing the Federal Commission of Economic Competition (COFECE) to more legal tools to tackle problems and noncompliance in the country, said José Valenzuela García, President of the Association.
The parking lot business currently suffers from a lack of legal certainty, as reported by the association, while COFECE lacks the authority to take legal action and enforce the recommendations issued in the matter.
“If you go to a shopping plaza, to the cinema, demand that you get a parking voucher if you went to the cinema, to a restaurant inside the plaza, it’s just that they give you the voucher, but those who are not going to consume , the plaza should have the liberty the place charge the prices they want”, said Valenzuela. Granting legal powers to COFECE, he said, would allow the regulator not only to issue recommendations, but actively enforce the laws and give greater legal certainty to the economic actors.
