Middle East: Mobile usage climb sparks regulatory conference

 |  January 29, 2014

Dubai will reportedly host the first “mobile governance” meeting this year for the Middle East, as boosted competition has lead to spikes in wireless usage in the region, say reports.

The so-called m-Government 2014 event will gather industry experts, companies and regulators to discuss what the increased mobile usage means for the Middle East; reports say the UAE has the highest smartphone penetration rate of the world at 74 percent, while Saudi Arabia follows a 73 percent.

The meeting will aim to open discussion in how the government plays a role in the Middle East’s adoption of mobile technology, according to a press release, a role that most certainly includes competition regulation.
