Philippines: DOJ, energy watchdog begin simultaneous probes

Both the Philippines’ Department of Justice and its Department of Energy have begin their own independent, simultaneous investigation into alleged collusion of various energy producers, say reports.

    The regulators are looking into claims the companies forced electricity distributors to hike prices. The DOJ’s office for competition, along with the DOE, will probe the Manila Electric Co. and its reported participation in an earlier scheme that lead to the shutdown of numerous power plants; the Manila Electric Co. was reportedly forced to raise its energy rates.
