Sharon White renunciará como jefa del regulador de medios británico Ofcom. White se unió Ofcom, formalmente conocido como la Oficina de Comunicaciones, en 2015.
Durante el mandato de White, a Ofcom se le encomendó investigar el intento de 21st Century Fox de hacerse cargo de Sky, llegando a la conclusión de que la compañía, entonces propiedad de Rupert Murdoch, sería un dueño apropiado para el gigante de la televisión de pago. Sin embargo, el año pasado Sky fue comprado por Comcast por US $ 39 mil millones en una subasta de alto nivel.
Se cree que Ofcom también está analizando a la BBC y el plan de ITV para lanzar su servicio de transmisión conjunta, BritBox, en Gran Bretaña (actualmente opera en América del Norte). Hace más de una década, el regulador dictaminó que tal proyecto sería perjudicial para la competencia, pero con la llegada de Netflix y Amazon, es probable que le agrade más la idea.
