The European Commission has approved the proposed acquisition of SCA Packaging by DS Smith. Both DS Smith and SCA Packaging, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget, are active in the corrugated packaging industry.
The approval is conditioned on the parties’ commitments to divest production plants in the U.K. and France. The divestments will resolve the Commission’s concerns with diminished competition for heavy duty and off-set litho laminated packaging and corrugated packaging in the U.K. and France, respectively.
