SCA’s acquisition of Georgia-Pacific’s European tissue business approved, with conditions
The European Commission has approved Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget’s (“SCA”) proposed acquisition of Georgia-Pacific’s European tissue business. Since both companies are active in the production of tissue products, the Commission was concerned with the transaction’s effects in the U.K., Ireland, Sweden, and Netherlands markets for the production and supply of toilet paper and paper towels.
To resolve these concerns, the parties have offered commitments. A U.K. and Scandinavian production facilities and a U.K. tissue making plant will be sold. The brands Thirst Pockets, Inversoft, Kittensoft, Nouvelle, Dixcel will also be divested, and the Lotus and Lotus Moltonel brands will be licensed and re-branded.
