The Commission welcomes the appointment of Ms Mondo Mazwai as the Competition Tribunal chairperson by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Ms Mazwai takes leadership of the Competition Tribunal at a crucial time for competition policy and competition law enforcement in South Africa. Competition authorities celebrate 20 years of existence, and the Competition Act has been amended to focus on outcomes, specifically to contribute to growth and inclusivity in the economy. It is also befitting that the appointment takes place in the historic month of August when South Africa celebrates women and their achievements.
“Ms Mazwai is a well experienced and respected member of the competition law community, having worked both in the competition authorities as a member of the Tribunal, the head of the Commission’s Legal Services Division and later Deputy Commissioner of the Competition Commission, as well as a partner in the competition practice of a firm of attorneys. I am looking forward to working with her.
