South Korea: Sony fined for setting price floor

South Korea’s antitrust watchdog said Tuesday that it will impose a fine of $274,500 on Sony Korea Corp., the local unit of the Japanese electronics giant, for setting the price floor for its online camera sales.

    According to the Fair Trade Commission, Sony Korea forced Internet dealers to sell Sony-branded digital cameras and camcorders above a certain price between February 2011 and August 2013, with penalties given to violators.

    Sony takes up 84 percent of the South Korean camcorder market, with a 20-percent share in the digital camera market and a 51-percent share of the mirrorless camera market.
