Samsung, based in South Korea, has set up a company in the US for the sole purpose of patent acquisition. The tech giant has established Intellectual Keystone Technology in Washington D.C., pumping $25 million to launch the business reported to focus on tech gadget screen patents, including LCD and OLED screen technology. According to Samsung, the new business is a way to protect the company’s intellectual property, and that the patent business is a way to promote innovation. But an insider, unnamed in reports, claims the move was to insure the company has “undisputable leverage” in the market and to guarantee profits regardless of the state of the market.
