TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew is scheduled to meet with key EU officials in Brussels next week, as announced by TikTok on Friday. This visit marks Chew’s second trip to Brussels and occurs in the context of increased regulatory scrutiny of TikTok’s role in the dissemination of disinformation, reported Reuters.
Chew is set to meet with EU industry chief Thierry Breton on November 6, and on the following day, he will hold discussions with EU digital chief Vera Jourova and EU antitrust chief Didier Reynders, according to a TikTok spokesperson.
During these meetings, Chew will provide updates on TikTok’s data security initiative, known as Project Clover, which began storing European user data locally earlier this year. TikTok currently operates a data center in Dublin, Ireland, and is in the process of constructing two additional centers in Ireland and Norway.

Additionally, Chew will brief EU commissioners on TikTok’s compliance with the newly established EU online content regulations, known as the Digital Services Act. This act mandates that major technology companies take further action to combat illegal and harmful online content on their platforms.
The discussions are expected to address TikTok’s efforts to enhance data security and its commitment to adhering to the EU’s evolving regulatory landscape.
